Tsunami hits South East Asia
Tsunami hits
South East Asia that has killed 230,000 people and millions homeless and their
businesses destroyed.
Dear friends and partners,
Thank
you for your interest in helping those affected by the December 26, 2004
earthquake and tsunami in South and South East Asia. We
wanted to update you with the relief work that is going on among the Tsunami
survivors.
Over 230,000 people lost their lives. Millions lost their homes and
businesses. Parents lost their
children and thousands of children lost one or both of their parents in this
tragedy. In the time of crisis while we watched the news on Television, our missionaries
were already on these locations helping people and save their lives. God
gave us a mandate to help the people that have fallen victims of the tsunami. Partners like you have prayed and provided financial
assistance to our ministry to help provide relief and medical care for thousands
of individuals and families.
Your
response to our letter about the Tsunami relief project has been such a
blessing! We are so grateful for the tremendous help that has been brought to
these needy people.
Harvest
NOW missionaries are doing an excellent job. They are on location helping people
and comforting people through prayer and sharing the Good News. Truckloads of
clean water, rice, lentils, vegetables, clothes and medicines has been
distributed. Medical aid has been
provided to the sick and the needy.
Even
while you read this letter, relief work continues in some of the remotest areas
where no other agencies are working. One
of our missionaries writes, “Now we are back from our survey to "Little
Andaman". This is on an island called "Hut bay".
Nearly 300 bodies were found and until now 6000 people are missing.
Concrete buildings have now been destroyed and made in to rubbles.
Thousands
of people have suddenly become homeless. The government
has provided relief camps where the people are living in tents. Our hearts
breaks to see up to 5 families living in one very small tent together.
The tragic
tsunami brought the rich and the poor to the same level. All the beauty of
the Andaman and Microbar islands is gone. The level of the sea in Port
Blair is rising. Reports says due to high water and shifting of land, the
Island has sunk one meter below. Even
now it is difficult to cross certain roads that are still filled with seawater.
People who live there are filled with fear about their future.”
Our missionary
teams are working on these remote islands of devastation to minister and bring
in the supplies that are so desperately needed. The mandate that God has
given us is long term and has caused our field of ministry to grow
immensely.
This is only the beginning of what God is
about to do through this tragedy. We truly need your prayers for the ingathering
of this great harvest. Please consider about helping so that we will be able to
accomplish this mission.
