Did you know ?
Who are these children ?
What are we doing ? Harvest NOW is helping 2,000 children in Asia by providing funds for building orphanages, supporting orphans and providing exciting children programs to help them grow in a safe and Christian environment.
My name is Neema.
I am 12 years old. I come from a Tibetan family. My parents died a
few years ago. They were
Tibetan Refugee living in Nepal. After both of my parents died because of
severe shortage food and bitter winter weather, I went to live with my
grandmother. We were living in a single room. There was no bathroom,
shower or electricity. We slept on the floor and at night it got very cold.
We spent every night praying, hoping to survive another day.
Life was very hard and very difficult. Most of the time we had
nothing to eat but radish soup. Grandmother made rice wine and sold it to
the villagers to earn a little money. Plenty of firewood and water was
needed for making these drinks.
Every day I went far distances to collect water from the spring and firewood
from the forest. Grandma could not afford to send me to school.
But every week I looked forward to going to church in our village.
The name or our church is The Victory Church started by Harvest NOW
mission. I enjoyed the church service and always took part in the Sunday
school. Grandma always taught me to praise and fear God. She was glad I was
going to church with my friends. Three years ago after my grandmother died, a missionary
working in our area arranged for me to come to a very nice children’s home
where I could stay. After I
came to this home, my life began to change for better. This home is operated
by Harvest NOW and just like me, there are many other children who also live
in this home. Here I am loved
by our house parents Uncle Pat and Aunty June.
They are very kind and loving.
Every day we are able to go to school and learn about Jesus.
I also enjoy nice hot meals twice a day.
Breakfast and a snack are also provided. Every six months we are
given new shoes. But most of
all, I love to worship God and lead my youth group in prayer and Bible study
every night. Meet Lalan Murmu - A tribal boy in India
A year ago something good happened in our lives. A missionary from Harvest NOW came and prayed for us. They told us about the living God and his son Jesus Christ, and how God wanted everyone to be happy and free. The missionary visited us more frequently and after a couple of months there was a small gathering in our village to praise and worship God. It was there that Jesus Christ came into our lives on the thatch hut by the roadside. My mother accepted Jesus as her Savior. Our ‘hut’ is now used for school for the children. I am slowly learning how to read and write.
Last week God helped me to
come to one of the orphanages cared for by Harvest NOW in
Meet Devi, Mona and Pappu The whole village rejoiced the day Devi married a businessman from Calcutta. Her family was so proud. She was going to Calcutta for her honeymoon. Instead, at the age of 15, Devi began her “married” life in a dark room of her new home, a brothel. Mona and Pappu have never slept in a bed. Each evening, they make their way to the alley behind a hospital. With the few rupees ($) they earn selling paper, cardboard, and rags, they buy a meal. They feel fortunate because their sleeping place is quiet and secluded, away from the railway platforms where street children are robbed and abused. Devi, Mona, and Pappu represent the millions of children at risk in India, Nepal, China, Thailand, Vietnam and Cambodia. Many of these children have no chance of eating one proper meal a day, of going to school or of sleeping and living in a secure home. Some girls never see their 5th birthday due to higher rates of foeticide and infanticide. In Calcutta, a 2004 survey identified nearly 200,000 children who were not in school. Most of the reasons for their absence relate to issues of poverty discrimination, and migration. These children often have shortened life spans, ill health and little or no education. They are treated as misfits, criminals, and yet, most of them have been abused, neglected, and exploited in ways we cannot even imagine. They are the innocent victims of adult sins. Children of the Future - Children of Destiny
